Hokies shutout Boston College, 7-0

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive win on Friday afternoon, defeating Boston College 7-0 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
 
Tech improved to 14-5 and 4-3 in the ACC with the win as the Hokies got out to the early lead with the doubles point. Henrik Korsgaard and Ryan Kros had the 6-3 win on court one while Jason Kros and Brandon Perez secured the point with the win at two.
 
The Hokies continued to roll into singles as Alex Ribeiro gave up just one game, defeating Markus Nordby 6-0, 6-1 on court two. Jason Kros, ranked No. 56 in the ITA, pushed the Tech lead to 3-9 as he had the 6-4, 6-3 decision over Derek Austin at the one.
 
Freshman Evan Fragistas clinched the win for the Hokies as he rallied from down 3-1 in the opening set to win it in a tiebreak over Sean Mullins, 7-6(5). Fragistas rolled in the second set, taking it 6-1.
 
Perez pushed the Hokies to a 5-0 advantage, knocking off Conor Mullins 6-3, 6-4 on court four. On court six, Freddy Mesmer fell in a close opening set 7-5 to Alexander Chieffalo, but responded to win the second 6-3 before getting the Hokies the point in 10-point tiebreak 1-0(7).
 
In the final match, Donato completed the sweep as he battled past Max Mendelsohn 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
 
The Hokies are back on the court Sunday, March 31 when they host No. 16 Notre Dame at noon. Tech will honor seniors Jason Kros, Freddy Mesmer and Mitch Harper.
