BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host the VCU Rams in the WNIT's second round on Sunday, March 24 on Carilion Clinic Court. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on WatchESPN.
The Hokies come in with momentum following a 92-65 victory Thursday against Furman. It was the first time since December that the Hokies had put up 90 or more points.
Freshman Dara Mabrey who sunk six shots from deep in the opening round victory over Furman, set the program's single season mark, with 78 made triples. She passed Vanessa Panousis' previous record of 77 set in 2014-15. Earlier in the game Mabrey passed teammate Aisha Sheppard's record for 3's by a freshman, which was 76.
For the third consecutive season under head coach Kenny Brooks, Virginia Tech set a new program record for made 3-pointers, connecting on 308 for the season. The previous record was 295.
Taylor Emery led the team with 24 points in the game, one of four Hokies in double figures.

SERIES HISTORY
Tech leads the series, which dates back to 1976, 17-9 with the last meeting coming in 2010. The Hokies are 11-2 at home is Cassell against the Rams. This will be the first meeting in the postseason for these programs.
The teams use to play nearly annually in the 80's and 90's including in the Virginia State Tournament.

- The Rams beat Charlotte in the first round of the competition 65-52, led by Tera Reed who had 18 points and 6 rebounds in the game.
- Reed is the team's leading scorer and averages 12.4 points a game.
- Taya Robinson leads the team in rebounds and averages 4.5 per game
- The Rams were the regular season Atlantic 10 champions for the first time in program history.
- VCU lost to the Fordham Rams in the championship game of the A-10 Tournament 62-47.
- VCU faced two ACC schools in the regular season, they lost to UNC 59-47 and beat Wake Forest 53-40.
- This is their seventh appearance all-time in the WNIT.
- Head coach Beth O'Boyle was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.
- Tera Reed earned All-Atlantic 10 first team honors.
- Taya Robinson was named to the All-Defensive Team and All-Atlantic 10 third team.
- Kseniya Malashka was named to the All-Rookie Team.
