Gyorgy claims All-American honors at NCAAs

AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Reka Gyorgy claimed All-American honorable mention honors as she took 12th in the 400 IM on Friday at the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas.

Gyorgy turned in a time of 4:06.28 to place 12th overall in the 400 IM. With the finish, Gyorgy picks her up third consecutive All-America honors in the event.

"Yesterday was good, but today was a very good day for us," said head coach Sergio Lopez Miro. "Reka qualified 10th during the morning session, two seconds faster than she swam at ACCs. This evening she was able to swim pretty much the same time tonight to finish 12th in the country so that is very good."

Joelle Vereb placed 30th overall in the 100 fly as she posted a 52.50 during the morning prelims.

On the boards, Ashlynn Peters placed 25th with a score of 258.25 in the 3-meter event.

"Joelle swam a very good time this morning, but she is dealing with some things medically," said Lopez Miro. "No excuses though, she did an awesome job in the prelims and swam a very good time for her. She will be ready tomorrow for the 100 freestyle. I am proud of the ladies and I think Ashlynn did a very good job too finishing up in the 3-meter."

The Hokies will wrap up NCAAs tomorrow with Gyorgy in the 200 back, Vereb in the 100 free and Peters on the platform.
