Virginia Tech finish fourth at Furman

Final Results

Final Round - Sunday

The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a three-round total of 5-over 857 and finished in fourth place at the Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon. The three-day tournament was played at the par 71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina.
 
Tech led after Friday's first round, shooting a 3-under 281. The Hokies posted a 292 on Saturday and an even-par 284 on Sunday.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, and Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West, South Africa led the Hokies. The duo posted 2-over 215 and finished 10 strokes behind medalist Keller Harper of host Furman. Pickering carded a 3-under 68 on Sunday in a round that featured five birdies.
 
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 17that 216 and Tom Crow, a junior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, tied for 25that 218. Bradley de Beer, a freshman from Western Cape, South Africa, tied for 76that 227. 
 
Three Hokies are playing the event as individuals. Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 38that 220, Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 58that 224 and Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, tied for 76that 227.
 
Coastal Carolina won the team tile at 7-under 845, four strokes better than Davidson, eight strokes ahead of host Furman and 12 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Minnesota finished fifth at 860, Yale was sixth at 866 and Charleston Southern was seventh at 876. Division II power USC-Aiken was eighth at 881, Dartmouth was ninth at 883 and Samford and USC Upstate tied for 10that 884. In all, 20 teams competed in the tournament.
 
The Hokies return to action April 6-7 at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The two-day event will be played at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

Round Two - Saturday

The Virginia Tech men's golf team has a two-round total of 5-over 573 and is in fourth place at the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday. The three-day tournament is being played at the par 71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina.
 
Tech led after Friday's first round, shooting a 3-under 281. The Hokies posted a 292 on Saturday.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He has a two-round total of 1-over 143 and trails the co-leaders, Keller Harper of host Furman and Wes Artac of Coastal Carolina. Johnson had a 73 on Saturday.
 
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, and Tom Crow, a junior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, are tied for 24that 145. Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West South Africa is tied for 38that 147 and Bradley de Beer, a freshman from Western Cape, South Africa, is tied for 78that 152. Pickering led the Hokies with a 1-under 70 on Saturday. Pickering opened the second round by recording birdies on each of the first three holes.
 
The Hokies are playing the event as individuals. Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 24that 145, Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 38that 147 and Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, is tied for 45that 148.
 
Coastal Carolina holds the team lead entering Sunday's final round. The Chanticleers are at 7-under 561, six strokes ahead of Davidson and Furman and 12 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Minnesota is fifth at 576, Yale is sixth at 577, Samford is seventh at 584, Charleston Southern and Presbyterian are tied for eighth at 589 and Dartmouth is 10that 590. In all, 20 teams are competing in this weekend's tournament.
 
The final round will be played Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Hokies will be grouped with Coastal Carolina, Davidson and Furman.


Round One - Friday

Three Hokies, Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia and Bradley de Beer, a freshman from Western Cape, South Africa, carded opening round 1-under 70s and are tied for fifth place. They trail leaders Zack Taylor and Wes Artac of Coastal Carolina, Alex Ross of Davidson and James Turner of Dartmouth by one stroke. Tech counted four rounds of par-or-better on Friday. 
 
Tom Crow, a junior from Virginia Beach, Virginia is tied for 13that even-par 71 and Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West, South Africa, is tied for 77that 77.
 
Three Hokies are playing the event as individuals. Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia and Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia are tied for 34that 73 and Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 59that 75. Three Hokies, Johnson, Pickering and Brockwell, all eagled the 524-yard, par 5 15thhole. 
 
Tech holds a one-stroke lead over Coastal Carolina and a two-stroke lead over Davidson. Host Furman and Yale are tied for fourth at 289. Minnesota is sixth at 290, Dartmouth is seventh at 292, Samford and Presbyterian are tied for eighth at 296 and Charleston Southern is 10that 297. In all, 20 teams are competing in this weekend's event.
 
The second round will be played on Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday morning. The Hokies will be grouped with Samford and Presbyterian in Saturday's second round and the group with tee off from the 10thtee beginning at 12:20 p.m. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
