BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's tennis picked up an ACC win on Friday afternoon as the Hokies knocked off Clemson 6-1 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech (11-5, 2-3 ACC) got out to the early lead after clinching the doubles point against the Tigers (8-11, 1-5 ACC). Carlo Donato and Alex Ribeiro paired up for the win on three while Henrik Korsgaard and Ryan Kros had the win on one.
Ribeiro pushed the Hokies lead to 2-0 as he rolled past Carlos Keladis 6-3, 6-1 on court three. Freshman Evan Fragistas gave Tech the 3-0 advantage defeating Mike Agee 6-1, 6-4 at six.
The match was clinched on court two where Korsgaard downed Yizhou Liu with straight set scores of 6-4, 6-3.
Virginia Tech kept the scoring going as Brandon Perez had the 7-5, 6-1 win at five over Jacob Jahn. Donato rounded it out with the win on court four, rallying to defeat Teodor Giusca after dropping the first set 6-4. The Tech sophomore came back to win the next two 7-6(3), 1-0(6).
The Hokies will be back on the court Sunday, hosting Georgia Tech in a noon match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
