Lacrosse welcomes Louisville in ACC home opener Saturday at Thompson Field

BLACKSBURG -The Virginia Tech lacrosse team welcomes Louisville to Blacksburg on Saturday, March 23 for a 1 p.m. matchup at Thomson Field. The game will be streaming on WatchESPN and live stats can be seen on hokiesports.com.
 
The Hokies roll into Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak, after defeating Elon 16-8 on Wednesday. Emma Crooks led the team with six goals, adding to her season total of 33. Paige Petty added four goals of her own, and Julia Bolte led the Hokies in assists with three. Petty continues to lead the team in both goals and points, with 41 and 47, respectively. Goalie Morgan Berman made five saves and led the team with four ground balls. 
 
Virginia Tech plays their first home ACC game of the season Saturday. The Hokies are 0-1 in the ACC, 7-4 overall. Tech lost their ACC opener to No. 15 Duke on Feb. 23, suffering an 11-10 overtime defeat in Durham. Bolte scored three goals in the loss. 
 
Bolte became the most recent member of the 100-point club, doing so Wednesday against the Phoenix. She has scored 68 points with the Hokies in the past season and a half and tallied 32 in her freshman campaign in 2017 at Orgeon. 
 
Petty also recently hit 100 points, doing so at Fresno State. 
 
The Cardinals
Louisville enters Saturday's game with a 4-7 record overall, 0-3 in the ACC. However, the Cardinals are 2-1 in their last three games, with the loss to No. 4 Syracuse 14-7 at home on Sunday. 
 
Attacker Tessa Chad leads Louisville with 33 goals and 36 points this season. Chad is seventh in the ACC in goals per game, averaging three. Goaltender Rachel Florek is 4-6 on the season with 66 saves. 
 
The Series
Virginia Tech is 1-5 all-time against the Cardinals. The only win came last season on March 31, 2018, beating the Cards 15-14 in Kentucky. Paige Petty led the Hokies with seven goals and eight points to pace Tech past Louisville by one goal. 
 
The Hokies have never beaten Louisville at home. They are 0-3 against the Cardinals in Blacksburg.
 
Looking Ahead
After Saturday's game, Virginia Tech will host No. 3 North Carolina on Wednesday at Thompson Field. The Hokies have never beaten the Tar Heels in 27 games all-time.
