Hokies to host Clemson, No. 44 Georgia Tech

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team is set to host a pair of weekend ACC matches beginning with Clemson on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 p.m. The Hokies will then host No. 44 Georgia Tech in a noon match on Sunday, March 23.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is coming off a 5-2 win over No. 44 Duke. The Blue Devils claimed the doubles point, but the Hokies came back strong in singles to win five of the six matches. Senior Jason Kros had the upset win as he downed then-No. 41 Nick Stachowiak in straight sets on court one. Junior Henrik Korsgaard also claimed a ranked win, defeating No. 114 Spencer Furman also in straight sets on court two.
 
Entering into the weekend, Kros is ranked No. 56 in the latest ITA singles standings. He is joined by Mitch Harper at No. 43, but Harper has been sidelined by injury since January. In doubles, Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro are No. 72 while Harper along with Carlos Donato are 59th.
 
THE TIGERS
Clemson fell to Duke and North Carolina 4-0, in both matches, last weekend. Simon Baudry leads the Tigers with a 15-7 record on the season, including a 12-5 tally at the two. Yizhou Liu is 14-6 with a 6-1 mark at the three and a 6-5 record at four.
 
THE YELLOW JACKETS
Georgia Tech picked up wins last weekend over North Carolina and Duke by margins of 4-3 in both. In the match against the Blue Devils, Georgia Tech got the doubles point and took the matches on courts one, four and five. Carlos Divar enters this weekend ranked No. 30 in the ITA standings.
 
UP NEXT: The Hokies will travel to VCU for a midweek match on Wednesday, March 27 at 1 p.m. before returning home next weekend for Boston College and Notre Dame.
