Hokies add one more to 2020 signing class

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech track and field and cross country director Dave Cianelli announced Wednesday that Ariana Rivera will join the Hokies for the 2020 season.

"I'm super excited to have Ariana commit to our program," Tech sprints coach Tim Vaught said. "I think she's going to be a great asset to our team. She's a very hard worker and determined athlete, I think she's going to develop into a very good hurdler on this level."

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Rivera comes to the Hokies as a New Balance Emerging Elite national champion after running the anchor leg for her team in the 4x400-meter relays. Her personal best times are 39.79 seconds in the 300, 42.44 in the 300 hurdles and 24.69 in the 200.

"I decided to come to Virginia Tech because when I visited, it felt like it was a place I could really see myself growing to the next level," Rivera said. "I clicked with the team and the coaches right away, and knew that this was a place where I would be taken care of."

The Hokies begin the outdoor season this weekend up as they split up for three meets - Florida State Relays, Black & Gold Invitational and Winthrop Invitational.
