Hokies drop decision to No. 6 North Carolina

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team gave up a 7-0 decision at the hands of No. 6 North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.

UNC (10-2, 3-0 ACC) got out to a quick 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.

The Hokies (8-5, 0-3 ACC) were unable to get anything going in singles as the Tar Heels claimed wins on all six courts in straight sets.

Henrik Korsgaard forced a tiebreak on court two after giving up the first set 6-4 to No. 100 Brian Cernoch. The two were tied at 6-6 to force the tiebreak where they kept it close, but the UNC player held on to win it 7-6(7).

Tech's Alex Ribeiro also kept his sets close, but Blaine Boyden closed it out to win on court three 6-4, 6-4.

The Hokies will be back on the court Monday at 2 p.m. when they host William & Mary in a non-conference match.
