Hokies conclude non-conference schedule Wednesday, play host to Elon

BLACKSBURG - After Sunday's overtime victory over No. 13 Denver, the Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team will take on Elon in their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday, March 20. First draw from Thompson Field is at 4 p.m. and the game can be seen on WatchESPN. 
 
The Hokies (6-4, 0-1) are looking to extend their winning streak to three while the Phoenix (2-6, 0-0) look to get back in the win column after losing five in a row. 
 
In Sunday's thriller, Sara Goodwin scored the game winner just over a minute into the overtime session taking the pass from Taylor Caskey who had earned a free position opportunity. For Goodwin it was her second game winner of the season.

 
 
Emma Crooks had a fantastic game scoring six points tying her season high, with four goals and two assists. She also secured eight draw controls including in the overtime session, giving Tech the possession that resulted in Goodwin's goal.
 
Morgan Berman continued her solid play in goal, making nine saves. 
 
The Phoenix 
Elon heads to Blacksburg after falling to North Carolina 20-2 on Tuesday, March 12. They've lost the last three games, all to ranked teams (Duke, Florida and North Carolina) by an average margin on 13.6 goals.
 
Mae McGlynn leads the Phoenix in scoring with 22 goals on the season, she scored five goals in a game twice, in 2019, in both of the team's wins against Campbell and Winthrop.
 
In goal, Paulina DiFatta has 67 saves leads the team in ground balls with 19 on the season. 
 
The Series
Elon and Virginia Tech have met three times previously, the Hokies have won two of the three games including a 14-12 victory at Elon in 2018. 
 
Paige Petty and Taylor Caskey each scored three goals in that game.
