Day Two - Final Round
The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round total of 893 and finished in ninth place at the Tar Heel Classic hosted by Suzy Whaley on Saturday afternoon. The two-day, three-round event was played at the par 72, 6,140-yard Teeth of the Dog Golf Course at the Casa da Campos Resort and Villas in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
Tech opened play on Friday morning with a 296 and followed that in the afternoon round with a 295. The Hokies posted a 302 in Saturday's final round.
Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, led the Hokies, tying for 20thplace at 221. Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest earned medalist honors with a 14-under 202.
Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 26that 222 and Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 44thplace at 226. Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 50thplace at 228 and Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, finished 64that 234.
Wake Forest captured the team title with a 23-under 841, 19 strokes ahead of Virginia and 26 strokes ahead of Ohio State. Host North Carolina was fourth at 870 and Ole Miss was fifth at 873. TCU was sixth at 877, Maryland was seventh at 886 and NC State was eighth at 890, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. LSU was 10that 894, Louisville was 11that 899, Colorado was 12that 907, UNC Wilmington was 13that 909, Florida Atlantic was 14that 927 and Qunnipiac was 15that 948.
The Hokies return to action at the end of the month, as they travel to Browns Summit, North Carolina to compete in the Bryan National Intercollegiate. The three-day event, hosted by Wake Forest, will be played March 29-31 at the Bryan Park Golf and Conference Center's Champion's Course.

Emily Mahar, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, leads the Hokies. She is tied for 11thplace at 144, nine strokes behind leader Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest. Mahar shot a 74 in the morning round, but improved to a 2-under 70 in the afternoon, Tech's low round of the day.
Jessica Spicer, a junior from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 25thplace at 147 and Amanda Hollandsworth, a graduate student from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 28that 148. Elizabeth Bose, a senior from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 56that 154 and Keera Foocharoen, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 60thplace at 156. Hollandsworth had the low round for the Hokies in Round 1, with a 1-under 71.
Wake Forest holds the lead going into the final round with a 9-under 567, four strokes ahead of Virginia and nine strokes ahead of host North Carolina. Ohio State is fourth at 580, Ole Miss is fifth at 582 and TCU is sixth at 585. NC State is seventh at 587 and LSU is eighth at 590, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Maryland is 10that 594, Louisville is 11that 597, UNC Wilmington is 12that 605, Colorado is 13that 609, Florida Atlantic is 14that 627 and Quinnipiac is 15that 629.
The Hokies will be grouped with NC State and LSU on Saturday. The tournament will begin the final round with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
