BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech freshman Noah Zawadzki placed first in the platform at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship in Annapolis, Md., on Wednesday.
Zawadzki scored a 750.55 in the finals. He has now qualified for the NCAA Championships in all three diving events.
"All in all, it was a really good wrap up for our qualifying meets," said head diving coach Ron Piemonte. "I thought Noah, as a freshman, to go up there and win it was extremely impressive. Overall, I was really pleased with how everyone did and I hope that our work here today gives us confidence moving forward."
All of Tech's female divers that competed in the platform made the finals on Wednesday. Despite just missing out on qualifying for NCAAs, freshman Brooke Leftwich turned in a fabulous final on the platform where she placed seventh with a score of 419.40. After qualifying for both springboard events the last two days, senior Ashlynn Peters qualified for her third event for the NCAA Championships by scoring a 409.30 in the platform.
Along with Zawadzki, Ben Schiesl will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Championships after qualifying in both events the last two days.
