Tech sweeps UAB Wednesday afternoon


BLACKSBURG, VA. –  The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated UAB 7-0 on Wednesday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
 
Tech (7-7, 1-3 ACC) took the lead early after claiming the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Natalie Novotna and Rita Pinto got the 6-3 win on one. Sarah Baron and Samantha Gillas teamed up for a 7-5 win on court two. The Hokies won on court three by default.
 
Tech also won by default in singles on courts five and six.
 
Nina Sorkin secured the team win for the Hokies after picking up the match 6-2, 6-0 on court two.  
 
Rita Pinto claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win on court four.
 
On court one, Nika Kozar picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win. Samantha Gillas picked up the win on court three, 6-2, 7-6(6).
 
The Hokies will be back on the court Friday, March 15 for a 1 p.m. match at Syracuse.
