Paige Petty, Virginia Tech's standout midfielder has been included on the Tewaaraton Award's watch list the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday evening. For the sophomore, it is her first nomination for the award, which is given annually to the top collegiate lacrosse player in the nation.
"I am very excited to see Paige receive this honor at such a young age in her playing career," Hokies' head coach John Sung said. "She I learning what it takes to play at an elite level and this just validates what we talk about every day. Hopefully this nomination will help Paige in her development and give her more motivation to push and be one of the best in the country."
Petty had a breakout 2018 season, her first at Virginia Tech where she led the team in goals with 65 points (58 goals, 7 assists). She was a First Team All-ACC performer as well as an All-American.
Through six games in the 2019 season, Petty is once again pacing the Hokies, scoring 21 times. The midfielder also has the most ground balls of an outfield player and has the second highest tally of draw controls on the squad.

This marks the third consecutive season that Virginia Tech has placed a player of the list, following former First Team All-ACC attacker Tristan McGinley's inclusion in both 2017 and 2018.
Virginia Tech is back on the field on Sunday afternoon, when they face New River Valley foe Radford at 3 p.m. from the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility.
