Crooks fuels Tech’s 14-4 season opening win against Bucknell Saturday afternoon

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech got its 2019 season underway Saturday inside the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility Saturday afternoon, earning a 14-4 victory. After a slow start by both clubs that saw a scoreless first 10 minutes, Tech found the net through Sarah Lubnow and would go on to score the game's first seven goals to take control of the game.

The Hokies start the season 1-0 for the second time in the John Sung era, while Bucknell's record moves to 0-1.

Crooks would lead all scorers in the contest with four goals, the third hat trick of her career. Petty tallied just once, but also corralled four draw controls and had a game high seven ground balls. Byrne, added two goals.

In goal, Morgan Berman made her first career start, facing seven shots and just two on frame. The sophomore from Suwanee, Georgia made one save, earning the win, the first of her career.
