BLACKSBURG – Hitting the road to begin the 2019 season, the Virginia Tech softball team will travel south to Charleston, South Carolina to take on four teams in a five-game tournament at the Cougar Classic from Friday through Sunday.
College of Charleston will play host to Central Michigan, Pitt, Purdue, Tech and Wichita State. Ticket information and tournament info is below:

The Hokies will look different this year, with a new coaching staff and a wave of nine newcomers. Pete D'Amour, who went 79-37 (25-9 ASUN) at Kennesaw State, enters his first year as the head coach at Tech.
He will lean on six seniors, junior Carrie Eberle and 15 underclassmen. Last week, Eberle, a pitcher, was named a preseason All-American and All-ACC pick. She was one of just six ACC players to make the All-America list, according to Justin's World of Softball (JWOS).
Tech, which went 23-30 (7-16 ACC) last year, returns six starters, including outfielders Cana Davis and Emma Strouth, infielders Olivia Lattin and Caitlyn Nolan, catcher/infielder Sierra Walton and Eberle.

2018 record: 22-26 (12-11 MAC)
Head coach: Margo Jonker (1,246-780-6, 40th season)
Returning starters: 7

The Chippewas were picked 7thin the MAC preseason poll, garnering 62 points.
SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

Head coach: Linda Kalafatis (132-91, 6th season)

All-time series: College of Charleston leads 4-3
Picking up a first-place vote, the Cougars finished second in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll.
SCOUTING PURDUE

The Big Ten Conference does not do a preseason poll. Last season, the Boilermakers finished 10thin the league.
