The ACC released its preseason Coaches Poll with the Hokies (39 points) slotted third behind Boston College (63) and North Carolina (55). For the Hokies, the third place predicted order of finish is their highest mark since joining the conference in 2004. The 2019 season comes on the heels of the record breaking 2018 which saw the squad go 5-2 in league play, smashing the program's previous best seasons in the league which featured two wins (2004 and 2017).

The Preseason All-ACC Team features 18 student-athletes representing seven conference teams, with four selections each from Boston College and Virginia, three from North Carolina, two each from Notre Dame and Syracuse, and one apiece from Duke and Virginia Tech.

Petty, a sophomore midfielder was an All-American and All-ACC performer a season ago where she led the Hokies to a 14-7 record, the program's best, which included wins in the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
The Bernardsville, New Jersey native started 20 games and led the team in scoring with 58 tallies and 65 total points. She also recorded 65 draw controls on the circle and scooped up 29 ground balls.
Petty tallied 10 hat tricks, including scoring a season best 7 goals in a comeback victory at Louisville.
The Hokies will kick off the 25th season of lacrosse at Virginia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 9 from the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility. The game will be shown on ACC Network Extra.
