Men's Tennis

Tech ready for three matches in five days

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team have two big ACC matches coming up this week. On Thursday, they will travel to take on No. 2 Wake Forest, before heading back to Blacksburg to host No. 5 North Carolina and William & Mary.

THE HOKIES
Tech went 2-1 last weekend, with victories against Duquesne and Liberty, before falling to N.C. State (No. 29).  Senior Jason Kros and sophomore Carlo Donato both captured two wins on the weekend. The Hokies have two ranked players, Mitch Harper (No. 41) and Jason Kros (No. 58) in the singles standings. In doubles rankings, Tech has the pair of Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro (No. 25) and the duo of Donato and Harper (No. 45).
 
THE DEMON DEACONS
In their last outing, at the ITA National Indoor Championship, Wake Forest went 3-1, including a win over North Carolina. The Deacs fell to Ohio State in the title match at the event. They have four ranked players on their roster: Petros Chrysochos (No. 2), Bar Botzer (No. 20), Melios Efstathiou (No. 40), and Rrezart Cungu (No. 118). The Demon Deacons have an edge all-time, 25-14.
 
THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina went 2-1 last weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championship, falling to Wake Forest in the semifinals. They have four players ranked nationally: Joshua Peck (No. 48), Benjamin Siguoin (No. 52), William Blumberg (No. 68), Brian Cernoch (No. 100). The Tar Heels hold a 28-3 advantage all-time. In the last meeting in Blacksburg, the Hokies kept it close but UNC edged Tech 4-3. Korsgaard, Harper and Freddy Mesmer claimed singles wins in the match.
 
THE TRIBE
William & Mary is looking for its first win of the season after falling to Yale and Penn last weekend. The Tribe also had 6-1 loss to Liberty who the Hokies defeated 4-3 a week ago. William & Mary holds an edge in the all-time series 19-20-1.
