Hokies falter at No. 29 NC State, 4-1

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell to NC State 4-1 on the road in the ACC opener for the Hokies.
 
The Hokies (8-3) got out to a strong start, winning the doubles point over the Wolfpack (8-3). Tech's 25th-ranked Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro paired up for a ranked win on court one as the duo knocked off No. 60 Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden, 6-4.
 
Tech clinched the point with the win at two where Jason Kros paired up with Brandon Perez to defeat Igor and Ivan Saveljic 7-5.
 
NC State took the 2-1 lead in singles with straight set wins on courts one and three. Korsgaard was edged on two as Igor Saveljic held on in close sets to win it 7-5, 7-6(5).
 
The Hokies' Carlo Donato batted at four, going to three sets against Yannai Barkai. Donato took the first set 7-5, but Barkai answered to claim sets two and three 6-4, 6-3 to win the match for the Wolfpack.
 
Courts five and six went unfinished once the match was decided.
 
Virginia Tech will be back on the court Thursday, Feb. 28 at No. 2 Wake Forest. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
