BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's tennis team wrapped up the bulk of its non-conference schedule with a pair of wins on Friday, defeating Duquesne 7-0 in the afternoon match before knocking off Liberty 4-3 in the evening.
Tech (8-2) opened the day with the doubles point over the Dukes as the Hokies claimed wins on courts two and one. Jason Kros paired up with Brandon Perez for the 6-3 win at two while 25th-ranked Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro had the 6-4 decision at one.
The Hokies pushed their lead as No. 55 Jason Kros had the 6-1, 6-1 win over Chris Corrao on court one. Perez knocked off Jared Isaacs 6-3, 6-4 at the four to give Tech a 3-0 advantate.
Ryan Kros secured the team win for the Hokies on court six where he defeated Dane Bendel, 6-2, 6-4.
Tech also secured wins from Ribeiro on court two, Carlo Donato at the three and Evan Fragistas on five.
In the second match of the day, the Hokies fell behind as Liberty nabbed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Jason Kros again had the first singles point for the Hokies as he defeated Josh Wilson 6-4, 6-2 on court one to even the match with the Flames. Perez gave the Hokies the first lead of the evening with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Chase Burton on five.
Donato pushed Tech ahead 3-1 on court four where he knocked off Ian Sturgill 6-2, 6-3. The Flames would get the next point with a win on two, but Korsgaard secured the team win for the Hokies on court three as he downed Eddie Gutierrez 6-4, 6-2.
The Hokies will be back on the court Sunday, Feb. 24 when they open ACC play at NC State. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
