WEXFORD, PA. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team defeated Pittsburgh 5-2 to claim their first ACC victory of the season on Friday at the Oxford Athletic Club.
Tech (5-4, 1-1 ACC) opened the day claiming the doubles points with wins on courts two and one. On court two Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin teamed up to win the match 6-3. Natalie Novotna and Rita Pinto secured the doubles point for the Hokies with a 7-5 win on court one.
On court six, Pinto gave the Hokies a 2-0 lead winning 6-2, 6-2. Samantha Gillas claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court five to give Tech the 3-0 advantage.
Elizabet Danailova secured the team win for the Hokies after picking up the match 6-1, 6-2 on court four. Kozar claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win on court two to push the Hokies lead to 5-0.
The Panthers were able to pick up victories on courts one and three.
The Hokies remain on the road, traveling to Virginia for a noon matchup on Sunday, February 24.
