BLACKSBURG – Coming down to the final match on court, the Virginia Tech women's tennis team fell to Purdue in a hard-fought 4-3 match on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies (1-2, 0-0 ACC) found themselves trailing early after the Boilermakers (4-1) were able to secure the doubles point. Purdue picked up wins on courts three and one to secure the point.

Tech was able to tie it 1-1 when Samantha Gillas defeated Purdue's Amina Mukhametshina 6-3, 6-0 on court three. Purdue would regain the lead, going on top 3-1 after picking up wins on court four and court one.
The Hokies would storm back into the match after Elizabet Danailova was able to defeat Zala Dovnik 6-3, 6-4 on court six to bring the Hokies within one of Purdue. After dropping her first set Shene Disbergen rallied to defeat Purdue's Caitlin Calkins 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 on court five to tie the score 3-3.
The deciding match came down to court two where Nina Sorkin squared off against Seira Shimizu. Sorkin was able to win the opening set 6-3 before giving up the second set to Shimizu 6-3. After falling behind 5-2 in the third, Sorkin powered back to knot it at 5-5, but Shimizu was able to win the final two points to claim the set 7-5 and secure the win for Purdue.
Virginia Tech will be back on the court Sunday, Feb. 3 in an 11 a.m. away match at Missouri.
