THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech will be represented in Greensboro by a young women's team as 14 members of the ACC squad are either freshmen or sophomores.
Of the upperclassmen competing for Tech, junior Reka Gyorgy is the two-time defending conference champion in the 400 IM. Gyorgy, along with sophomore Joelle Vereb both qualified for NCAAs in 2018 and earned honorable mention All-American honors. Vereb finished fifth at ACCs last season in the 100 breaststroke and was a member of two top-five relay teams including: 200 medley (2nd) and 400 free (5).
Gyorgy has already recorded NCAA provisional times in the 400 IM, 200 IM and 200 backstroke while Vereb has provisional marks in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 IM.
Freshman Loulou Vos looks to make her mark during her first trip to ACCs. She holds the Hokies top times this season in the 200 freestyle, 1000 free and 1650 free.
On the boards, senior Ashlynn Peters leads a group of three freshmen and one sophomore into the meet. Peters was named the 2018 ACC Diver of the Meet after qualifying for the finals on all three heights. This season she earned ACC Diver of the Week honors after placing first or second in all three events at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Joining her are sophomore Regan Westwood and freshmen Brooke Leftwich, Teagan Moravek and Izzi Mroz.
For the men's side, senior Ben Schiesl and freshman Noah Zawadzki look to start the men's championships off the right way, scoring points before the Tech swimmers take the pool next week in Greensboro. Schiesl claimed ACC Diver of the Week honors three-times this season. In the three weeks, he took first in four of the seven events in which he competed. Zawadzki also took home a weekly honor this season, winning first on the 3-meter and claiming second in the 1-meter in Tech wins over Notre Dame and Pitt.
THE FIELD
NC State enters the week as the top-ranked team, checking in at No. 4 in the final CSCAA/TYR Poll. Defending ACC Champion Virginia is just behind at No. 5. Duke comes in ranked No. 12 while Notre Dame is No. 16. North Carolina rounds out the ranked teams at No. 21.
