Hokies close out four-game homestand Wednesday afternoon, meet Cincinnati for first time in program history

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team gets set to take the field once again at the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Coverage will be available on ACC Network Extra.
 
Tech got their season underway on Feb. 9 with a resounding 14-4 victory over visiting Bucknell. Emma Crooks led the squad with 5 goals in that contest, while also contributing 3 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers. For the season, she leads the team in draws with 15.
 
Last week, the Hokies fell to a pair of top-20 squads, the defending national champions JMU and Colorado. All-American Paige Petty, Tech's leading scorer tallied hat tricks in both games.
 
Morgan Berman recorded a career high 14 saves in the matchup with Colorado. Reilly Reed scored her first goal of the season while Emma Crooks also tallied a goal. Julia Bolte had an assist in her first start of the season. Sophomore Ella Tankersley earned the first start of her career on the defensive end.
 
THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati (2-1) comes to Blacksburg off a 22-18 win against Marquette at home. The Bearcats were led on offense by Taylor Gysin who scored 6 goals and added 2 assists. Sophomores Kate Carney and Alyssa Adams also recorded career highs with Carney tallying six points and Adams scoring five times.
 
On the season, the Bearcats are led in scoring by Monica Borzillo a junior who has tallied 20 points (12 goals, 8 assists.)
 
In goal, Giuliana Durso owns both wins for Cincinnati and has 24 saves to 40 goals conceded. 
 
THE SERIES
Wednesday's meeting will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
 
UP NEXT
The Hokies will hit the road for the first time in 2019, travelling first to No. 15 Duke on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a noon matchup which can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
 
Tech will then head to Old Dominion on Wednesday, Feb. 27 before returning home on March 3 for a game against New River Valley foe Radford.
