Hokies fall to Colorado in top-20 matchup

BLACKSBURG – In the Hokies second top twenty matchup of the week, Colorado (1-1) took a 5-1 lead in the opening twelve minutes of play and remained in control until the final whistle as they defeated Tech (1-2) 17-6 Saturday afternoon at the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility.

"In the beginning it was 2-1," head coach John Sung said. "One of our kids throws it away and they go on a three-goal run and the next thing you know, it's 5-1. Out of our twelve starters, 10 of them are either freshmen or sophomores. They're young, they're learning and I know it's a tough road ahead but they're going to get better." We're going to clean up the messes that we made and be ready for Cincinnati on Wednesday."

Morgan Berman made a career-high nine saves on the afternoon including stopping several Colorado free position opportunities.

All-American Paige Petty had another strong showing tallying four goals, three ground balls and winning one draw control. Emma Crooks and Riley Reed also found their way onto the scoresheet as they each recorded one goal.

Julia Bolte and Taylor Caskey also tallied points as both had one assist on the day
