Virginia Tech guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker has been named to the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Team. The trophy, awarded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, goes to the nation's top player.
The sophomore from Toronto, Ontario, Canada leads the Hokies in scoring and steals and is among the ACC leaders in numerous categories. He has won the ACC Player of the Week award twice this season, most recently for the week ending Feb. 3, 2019.
On March 4, 2019, the list will narrow even further to 10 national semifinalists. The four finalists will be announced on March 19, 2019, and fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite player leading up to the final announcement. The 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the Naismith Awards Brunch presented by Mortenson on April 7, 2019, during the Final Four in Minneapolis. Only players on the midseason team are eligible to advance to the next round.
The Hokies return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers. Tip-off is 4:30 p.m. and the game will be shown on regional sports networks.
