Tech returns to Cassell for first ACC home game of 2018-19, play host to No. 14 Syracuse Sunday afternoon

Blacksburg - The Virginia Tech women's basketball returns to Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum for their first home ACC game of the season on Sunday, Jan. 6 versus the 14th-ranked Syracuse Orange. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
 
The contest is a faculty and staff game, all Virginia Tech employees are entitled to claim four tickets with a valid ID.
 
The Hokies will look to get back to their winning ways, after suffering the first loss of the season on Thursday afternoon at Miami to open up ACC play. Tech was led by a double-double from Taylor Emery (20- points, 10 rebounds) and 15 points from Dara Mabrey, the ACC's leader in 3-point percentage.

Syracuse (12-2, 1-0) picked up an 84-75 victory at Clemson Thursday night to start ACC play. Miranda Drummond lead four Orange in double figures, scoring a game high 23, while Gabrielle Cooper added 22 as Syracuse won its sixth consecutive game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The series dates back to 1988 and includes meetings as members of two different conferences, first the Big East and since 2004, as members of the ACC.
 
The Hokies and Orange have met 12 times previously with both clubs earning six victories. Last season, Tech won both meetings, becoming the first Virginia Tech basketball team to earn a victory at the Carrier Dome with a 73-64 victory on Feb. 1, 2018. Then in the ACC Tournament, the Hokies overcame a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to advance 85-70, powered by 28 points from Emery.
