NEW YORK—The Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell to #RV Kentucky 4-0 on Sunday morning in the ITA Kick-Off in New York City.
Tech came out strong in doubles play as the pair of Carlo Donato and Evan Fragistas played in a tight match, but fell 6-4 to the duo of Fabian Penzkofer and Kevin Huempfner on court three. Ryan Kros and Alex Ribeiro forced their match into a tiebreak before falling 7-6(2) on court one to Cesar Bourgois and Enzo Wallart as Kentucky claimed the doubles point, taking the 1-0 lead. Jason Kros and freshman Brandon Perez were tied 6-6 with Ryo Matsumura and Kneto Yamada before the match was called.
Kentucky secured the team victory in singles with wins on courts six, five and one.
Tech will return to action against Brown on Friday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. against Brown followed by JMU at 6 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
