Hokie ClubBlacksburg, VA. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team split results on Sunday falling 4-3 to ETSU before sweeping James Madison 7-0 at the Burrows- Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech opened the day with a close loss to ETSU, the Hokies won the doubles point with Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin picking up the win on court one and Annie Clark and Emily Pence winning on court three.
At the five Sorkin defeated the ETSU's Yi Chi Ma 6-3, 6-1. Shene Disbergen at the six also defeated her ETSU opponent, Esther Guemes, winning 6-3, 6-2.
The Bucs were able to secure the victory after winning on courts one, two, three, and four.
In the second match of the day, Tech won the doubles point with wins on all three courts. The Hokies clinched the doubles point with Emily Pence and Annie Clark teaming up for the 6-2 victory on court three over Amanda Nord and Emma Petersen.
Disbergen gave the Hokies a 2-0 lead in the match, knocking off Nord on court six while Elizabet Danailova defeated Petersen 6-4, 6-3 at five.
Sammi Gillas secured the team win for the Hokies at three, knocking off Jona Roka in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Nika Kozar pushed the Hokies to a 5-0 lead in the match defeating Abby Amos in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Nina Sorkin battled back after losing the first set to win 0-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 to give the Hokies a 6-0 lead.
Tech wrapped up the day with Natalie Novotna knocking off Daria Afanasyeva in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 on court one.
The Hokies will be back on the court, Friday, Feb. 1 hosting Purdue in a 3 p.m. match.
