GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Rachel Baxter of Virginia tech's track and field team has been named ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The Orange, California native posted the fourth-best mark in school history at the Hokie Invitational last weekend, clearing a height of 4.34 meters (14 feet, 2.75 inches) in the pole vault to place first. This marks the second time in her career that she has earned a weekly honor from the office. She joins Jacory Patterson as the only other Hokie selected for the weekly award this indoor season.
Baxter's mark in Blacksburg was a season best and also a new personal, one that she set two weeks ago at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Her vault is the best in the ACC and is currently tied for the No. 4 mark in the country.
Four others were selected by the ACC for the Weekly honors, including Virginia's Alfred Shirley III (Men's Track), NC State's Dominique Clairmonte (Women's Track), North Carolina's Daniel McArthur (Men's Field).
The Hokies will be back in action on Friday, splitting up and going to two meets. The throws group will head to Iowa City, while the pole vault, jumps/multi-events and the sprints group will make the journey to Clemson.
