Hokies win singles and doubles at Virginia Tech Invite

BLACKSBURG – Senior Jason Kros claimed the singles title while juniors Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro won the doubles at the 2019 Virginia Tech Invitational.
 
Jason Kros went undefeated on the weekend, securing two matches on court one and a match on court two. He kept his winning going during the final day of competition as he downed William & Mary's Brenden Volk in decisive straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
 
Korsgaard and Ribeiro fell today, but had two doubles wins at the one, including a win over the nation's top-ranked tandem, over the weekend to score enough points for the tournament title.
 
The Hokies got a win in doubles today with Jason Kros pairing up with freshman Brandon Perez to knock off Oren Vasser and Jack Kelly 6-4.
 
In singles, Tech also grabbed a win from Carlo Donato as he defeated Vasser, 6-4, 6-2. Perez had the 6-4, 7-6(1) decision against Kelly.
 
Ryan Kros wrapped up the day for the Hokies as he knocked off William & Mary's Ruo Chen 6-4, 6-2.
 
Middle Tennessee's Max Rauch finished second while Penn State's Constant de la Bassetiere was third in the singles. MT's Tom Moonen and Chris Edge were the runners-up on the doubles side.
 
Virginia Tech will be back on the court next weekend when the Hokies travel to New York, NY to compete against Columbia, Kentucky and Dartmouth as part of the 2019 ITA Kickoff Weekend.

DAY TWO
BLACKSBURG – 
The Virginia Tech men's tennis team continued its strong play on Sunday during the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. 
 
Tech opened the day with a dominating performance in the two doubles as Carlo Donato and Jason Kros paired up to win 6-1 over Middle Tennessee's Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha. 
 
In the one doubles, Tech's 43rd-ranked pair of Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro trailed 4-1 to Tom Moonen and Christopher Edge. The Hokies tandem rallied to score three straight to tie it up at 4. Tech and MT were tied again at 5, but Korsgaard and Ribeiro scored the final two to win the match. 
 
Jason Kros, ranked 30th, was also victorious in singles as he dropped Stijn Slump 6-4, 6-2. No. 118 Korsgaard also claimed a singles win, defeating Moonen 6-2, 7-5. 
 
Freshman Brandon Perez picked up his first collegiate singles win as he knocked off Rocha in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-2. Ryan Kros rounded out the singles wins for the Hokies, defeating Daniel Stormon 6-2, 6-4. 
 
The Hokies will wrap up the Virginia Tech Invitational on Monday at 2 p.m. against William & Mary.

Korsgaard, Ribeiro knock off nation's No. 1 doubles

BLACKSBURG – 
Virginia Tech juniors Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro paired up to knock off the nation's top-ranked doubles team of Constant De La Bassetiere and Gabriel Nemeth on the opening day of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
 
Korsgaard and Ribeiro, ranked 43rd, paired up to face the nation's top-ranked tandem, rolling past De La Bassetiere and Nemeth with a decisive 6-2 margin. 
 
The Hokies also claimed a doubles win from No. 42 Mitch Harper and Carlo Donato as they downed Matt Galush and Ben Lieb, 7-5.
 
Jason Kros, ranked 30th in the ITA, claimed the win on court two. After falling behind with a 7-5 loss in the first set, Kros rallied to win the second in exciting tiebreak fashion, securing it 7-6(3) to force a third set in which he rolled past Christian Lakoseljac. 6-1. 
 
Tech's No. 118 Korsgaard also got the win in singles, as he downed Christos Antonopoulos with straight set scores of 6-4, 6-4. 
 
The Hokies will be back on the court on Sunday, facing Middle Tennessee State at 10 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

**FORMAT
The Tournament will crown first, second and third place finishes at the end of the weekend with scoring based on a points system. Players who win at the one will be awarded eight points with it continuing to decrease down to those who win at the eight being awarded one point. In doubles the points will be awarded with six to the ones, four to twos, two to threes and one to those at four. At the end of the competition the scores will be tallied to determine an overall winner. There will be NO head-to-head team scoring in this event.
