Hokies claim second win of the day, defeating Charleston

BLACKSBURG– The Virginia Tech men's tennis team picked up its second win of the day, defeating College of Charleston 6-1 on Thursday evening at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech (2-0) got out to the 1-0 lead with wins on courts one and three in doubles. No. 42 Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper downed Easton Thomas and Ksawery Pociej 6-1 at the one. Jason Kros and Brandon Perez paired up to roll past Augusto Bonorino and Robby Krick 6-0 on three. 
 
Donato pushed the Hokies ahead 2-0 as he knocked off Pociej 6-0, 6-2 on court four. The Hokies 26th-ranked Mitch Harper gave Tech a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Benedikt Cawson at the one. 
 
Henrik Korsgaard, ranked No. 118, clinched the win for Tech as he downed Johnny Wang 6-1, 6-3 on court three. 
 
The Hokies followed with a win from No. 30 Kros on two where he dropped Thomas 6-0, 6-4. Rounding out the scoring for the Hokies was freshman Evan Fragistas with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win over Andre Limon on court five. 
 
Virginia Tech will be back on the court Jan. 19-21 when the Hokies host the VT Invite at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. each day.

Hokies open 2019 spring slate with sweep over Boston U

BLACKSBURG – 
The Virginia Tech men's tennis team opened the 2019 spring slate with a sweep over Boston University, defeating the Terriers 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech (1-0) opened with a sweep of the doubles matches to get out to the 1-0 lead in the match. The Hokies' two-ranked doubles duos clinched the point as No. 43 Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro won it 6-1 on court one. No. 42 Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper rolled to the 6-2 decision at the two. 
 
Donato pushed the Hokies' lead to 2-0, defeating Max Hartenstein 6-2, 6-0 on four. Chase Bernstine added another point for Tech with the 6-1, 6-1 win over Marc Sable at the six.   
The match was clinched on court five where freshman Evan Fragistas downed JP Avila 6-4, 6-1. 
 
Tech continued its winning at the one as No. 30 Kros knocked off Owen Lu 6-4, 6-4. Korsgaard, ranked No. 118, defeated Max Stehling 6-1, 7-6(5) on three and Ribeiro had the 7-692), 6-2 decision against David Bogatin at two. 
 
The Hokies will be back on the court this afternoon, hosting College of Charleston at 5 p.m.
