GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Jacory Patterson has been named Co-ACC Men's Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the first time that Patterson has earned a weekly award from the conference.
Patterson, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, broke the school record and the U20 World Junior indoor record in the 300 at the Virginia Tech Invitational last weekend, finishing the race in a time of 32.49 seconds to place first. His mark was also the second fastest NCAA indoor time ever in the event and the ninth fastest ever by an American.
Co-ACC POTW was not the only honor that the freshman earned this week. The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) also tabbed Patterson as the Men's Division I National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. He is the only Hokie to win the honor during the indoor season, the fourth Hokie overall and only the third male athlete from the ACC to earn the honor.
Four others were selected by the ACC for the Weekly honors, including Florida State's Kasuan James (Co-Men's Track), Florida State's Jayla Kirkland (Women's Track), Florida State's Armani Wallace (Men's Field) and Florida State's Rougui Sow (Women's Field).
The Hokies return to Rector Field House for their second meet of the season as they host the Hokie Invitational. The meet begins Jan. 18 on Friday afternoon and carries through Saturday Jan. 19.
