THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech returns to the pool for the first time since November when the Hokies competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Hokies men finished fifth among some of the top-ranked teams in the country while the women' were seventh against a ranked field.

The Hokies' men are receiving votes in the most recent CSCAA TYR Top 25 poll and currently sit at 28th in the nation. Tech had a solid fall to open the season, finishing with a 5-0 record in head-to-head competition, including wins over ranked-foes Ohio State, Notre Dame and Pitt. Virginia Tech's women were 2-3 in the fall with wins against Penn State and Pitt.

During the first half of the season, the Hokies also helped to represent the ACC at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge meet with Ian Ho and Joelle Vereb making the trip to West Lafayette, Ind. The Hokies' divers also had a solid fall as Ben Schiesl (2 times), Noah Zawadzki and Ashlynn Peters claimed ACC Diver of the Week honors.

THE CAVALIERS
Virginia enters the meet ranked on both the men's and women's side. UVA's men are 16th while the women' are 11th. This is the first weekend the Cavaliers have had their full team back in competition since 2018, however the divers opened 2019 at the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational. Virginia will face Tennessee on Friday evening prior to taking on the Hokies Saturday.

Last season was a split result for the teams with the Hokies' men winning while Virginia's women claimed the win. This meet will not count in the annual Virginia529 Commonwealth Clash scoring. Swimming will be scored in the clash at the ACC Championships in February.

Up Next: The Hokies will return home to host James Madison, George Washington and Cincinnati on Saturday, Jan. 19. It will also be Senior Day at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center with Tech recognizing its 12 graduates prior to the start of the meet.
