BLACKSBURG – With the opportunity for Division I baseball programs to play two fall exhibition games without penalty for the spring season, the Virginia Tech Hokies have announced they will be hosting two games at English Field at Union Park, both on Friday nights this fall.
Tech will welcome the Charlotte 49ers for the first game on Sept. 14, while the High Point Panthers will be on campus for the second game on Oct. 5. Both of those games will be contested the night before a Hokies' football game – the East Carolina (9/15) and Notre Dame (10/6) tilts.
First pitch for the Charlotte game is 7 p.m., while the High Point game will start at 6 p.m. Concession stands will be open for the two exhibition games and there will be free admission for these two contests as well, along with the Fall World Series games to be played in late October.
In April, the NCAA Division I Council adopted a few legislative proposals relating to baseball and one of those was allowing teams the ability to play fall exhibition games without them counting against the 56-game spring schedule. Previously, teams were allowed to play games in the fall, but those would count against a program's 56-game slate.
The Hokies have started individual workouts and are set to open the fall with their first team practice on Sept. 4.
