Tech cross country programs announced 2018 schedule

BLACKSBURG –The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams revealed the 2018 fall schedule Thursday, a slate highlighted by three home invitationals at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg.

The Hokiesopen the season with back-to-back home meets for the fourth consecutive year. The HokieInvite takes place on Friday, Aug. 31, followed by the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite on Friday, Sept. 14.
Tech then will travel to Pennsylvania twice over the course of a month, heading to the Keystone State for meets at Lehigh University (Sept. 28) and at Penn State (Oct. 12). Those two meets lead into the ACC Cross Country Championships, which will take place Oct. 26 in Boston. The Tech men's team finished second a year ago behind All-ACC performances from Peter Seufer, Daniel Jaskowak, Neil Gourley and Vincent Ciattei. Paced by two-time All-ACC performer Katie Kennedy and junior Kayla Richardson, the Tech women came in third for the second straight year.

The Hokiesreturn home for their final home meet of the season – the HokieOpen – on Friday, Nov. 2.

Tech staratspostseason with the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 9, in Rock Hil, South Carolina, with hopes of earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. The Tech men finished second at the regional last season and earned their third NCAA Championships bid in the past six years. The Tech women, behind Kennedy, Richardson and Sarah Edwards, came in fourth at the regional and just missed on an at-large berth to the Championships. 

For teams that qualify, the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Madison, Wisconsin.
