LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the Virginia Tech volleyball program has earned Team Academic Honors for the 2017-18 season.
"In our program, we have future CEOs that will make a significant impact on many different professions after they graduate," Tech head coach Jill Wilson said. "I am extremely proud of our team's dedication to excelling in the classroom and they are a true definition of a student-athlete."
The AVCA honored a record 973 teams this year from both the high school and college ranks. The award is given to teams that hold an average 3.30 cumulative team GPA during the academic year on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The Hokies finished the academic year with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.34.
A total of 164 Division I schools were honored and Tech is one of five ACC schools to make the list, joining Florida State, Louisville, Miami (Fla.) and Pittsburgh.
Tech opens the 2018 season on the road against Charlotte, Presbyterian and USC Upstate in a tournament on Aug. 24-25 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hokies return 10 letterwinners and are set to add six newcomers.
