Hokies look to extend dominance over Radford Tuesday night

BLACKSBURG –The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to take the court on Tuesday, Dec. 4 after a six-day break when they face New River Valley foe Radford. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.

THE HOKIES
Tech picked up their eighth win of the season last week in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Rutgers, 67-51, extending the program's winning streak in that competition to four. The team was led by Taylor Emery with 22 points and four rebounds. Kendyl Brooks contributed with 11 points, and Regan Magarity had nine points and 14 rebounds, just short of yet another double-double.
 
The Hokies continue to garner votes in the AP Poll, receiving 20 this week.  
 
THE MATCHUP
The Highlanders are coming off of a 1-1 trip to the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament. Radford first beat Temple 56-50, then lost to Nebraska 77-39. Khiana Johnson, Destinee Walker, and Lydia Rivers consistently led the team in both games. Johnson had 16 points against Temple, then 13 points against Nebraska. Walker had 21 points in the win, then 10 in the loss, and Rivers who had eight points in both games. 
 
The Highlanders have a record of 3-2, beating South Carolina State, ETSU, and Temple so far in 2018-19. 
 
The series between the NRV rivals dates back to 1976, with Tech owning a 27-9 record. Tech has won each of the last eight meetings by an average margin of 22.3 points per game. Radford last won in 2006 when they defeated Tech at Cassel Coliseum 67-60. 
 
In last season's meeting, Magarity posted a career-best 28 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, as Tech won 68-42.
 
 NOTABLE 

  • Tech has the top scoring defense in the conference, holding opponents to 53.8 points per game.
  • The Hokies' +23.1 scoring margin also tops the conference, as does the squad's .796 free throw percentage.
  • Regan Magarity leads the league and national charts with 114 total rebounds. She also has six double-doubles on the season, leading the conference. Magarity has eight 10-rebound games, the next closest in the ACC is Miami's Mompremier with five.
  • The Hokies have a 47-game unbeaten run at Cassell Coliseum against non-conference opposition.
