The Hokies stand at 13-0, one of just nine D1 teams without a loss heading into conference play. It is the second time in three seasons under Kenny Brooks that the Hokies have accomplished this feat.
Dara Mabrey was the catalyst early, knocking down three 3-pointers to get the team off to that quick start and then she got others involved as Aisha Sheppard, Trinity Baptiste and Rachel Camp all scored in a 13-0 run that pushed the Hokies' lead to 24-2 in the first quarter.
With Taylor Emery failing to score in the first half, the Hokies got a boost off of the bench with sophomore Trinity Baptiste leading all scorers with 13 points and 6 rebounds in the first half to go along with 3 assists.
(12/29/2018) 2018 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL vs. LONGWOOD
Tech's shooting was impressive, as the squad combined to knock down 16 triples, a new school record, after making 15 in last week's win over Ohio State. The Hokies went 16 of 37 (43 percent) from downtown Saturday.
The Hokies controlled the glass, holding a 51-27 edge in that category and taking advantage to the tune of 22 second chance points.
Regan Magarity, one of the nation's best rebounders, set a new personal best with 18 in the contest, tallying a double-double with her 13 points.
Tech saw five different players register in double figures, led by Baptiste's 22 and Mabrey's 17. Sheppard added 13 off of the bench and Emery ended the game with 13 as well.
Khaila Hall led the Lancers (1-9)
Other key notes:
• The duo of Magarity and Baptiste have played just 13 games together and are already tied for second place in Tech history with four double-doubles in the same game. The forwards have done so in the season opener against USC Upstate, and also against Georgia Southern, Richmond and Saturday against the Lancers.
• For Magarity, the double-double was number 10 on the season, a mark which leads the ACC. Her career tally is now up to 42.
• Five different Hokies combined to set the new 3-point record for a single game at 16. Mabrey had 5, Emery, Sheppard and Kendyl Brooks each connected three times and Baptiste added another two.
NEXT GAME: The Hokies are set to begin ACC play on Thursday, Jan. 3 with a 2 p.m. tip at No. 24 Miami. That contest can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
Tech will return home to Cassell Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 6 to face the No. 15 Syracuse Orange at 2 p.m. Tickets for the home ACC opener are available here.
