WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA – Down 16 in the first half, the Virginia Tech women's basketball closed the second quarter on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to eight and continued a relentless comeback going on to defeat Ohio State 81-73 Friday in the West Palm Invitational.

For Tech, the win moves their record to an impressive 12-0, heading into the holiday break. The Hokies are one of just 11 teams with an unblemished record in Division 1.

Tech started the game by hitting four straight triples jumping out to a quick lead before the Buckeyes (4-5) had a chance to get their feet under them. However, Ohio State would rally, converting their opportunities in the paint where they held an advantage 34-22 on the afternoon.

The Hokies had to contend with Dorka Juhasz, a center for the Buckeyes who got the team off to a hot start. The freshman would end the game with 27 points and pull down eight rebounds.

Tech trailed by 16, then went on 8-0 run to close the first half

Tech's own force on the block, Regan Magarity, spurred the team on in the first half and continued her energy throughput the contest, tallying a ninth double-double on the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds. With that points tally, the redshirt senior moves into ninth place all-time on the Tech's scoring charts.

Taylor Emery again brought an infectious fighting spirit top the court, rallying Tech with 27 points in the game including a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line, cashing in on each opportunity the defense gave her. She knocked down five 3's and also pulled down four rebounds and had 4 assists.

The 8-point deficit that the Hokies faced at the half was the largest of the season.

The Hokies tied a school record with 15 made 3-pointers on the afternoon shooting 60 percent from distance. Tech began the game making each of their first four attempts from distance, helping them jump out to a lead.

NEXT GAME: Tech will return home to the confines of Cassell Coliseum for a contest with Longwood on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.

That game is a faculty and staff game where Virginia Tech staff members can claim a limited number of complimentary tickets. They may be claimed at the Cassell ticket office beginning 90 minutes before tipoff.
