Tolbert named VaSID first-team all-state

Opens in a new window VaSID Release

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After a stellar season by Virginia Tech volleyball's Jaila Tolbert, the senior was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state first team, as announced on Thursday by the organization.

The honor marks the second time Tolbert has been named to the first team, with her being named to the squad last fall, too. She becomes the fourth Hokie to make the first team in consecutive years, joining Cara Baarendse, Lindsey Owens and Felicia Willoughby. For the second straight season, Tolbert was named to the All-ACC second team as well.

Tolbert wrapped up her final season donning the maroon and orange by turning in a career-high 348 kills on a .280 hitting percentage with a career-best 390.5 points. Defensively, the right-side hitter collected 79 blocks.

The Minnesota native became the 16thplayer in school history to rack up 1,000 kills in a career, accomplishing the feat on Nov. 16 at Boston College. She also was the first-ever Tech volleyball player to be a Senior CLASS Award candidate this fall.

VaSID names 27 all-state teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an academic all-state squad and an all-sports champion in both the university and college divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
