BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's soccer program is unveiling its 2019 signing class in a different way. Rather than announcing all of them and their accomplishments in one release, the Hokies will highlight each new signee individually, which will include a brief "Get to Know" Q&A, until all of the incoming freshmen have been announced.
Our next 2019 addition to the program is Sydney Ash, a 5-foot-8 defender from Leesburg, Virginia. She currently attends Riverside High School and is contemplating majoring in business when she arrives at Tech. For the Rams, Ash did not play soccer in high school, but earned four letters playing lacrosse, and earned first team all-state, all-region, and all-district while leading the team to the 2018 state title as its captain.
For the past seven years, Ash has been a member of FC Virginia DA, playing for Christian Cziommer as a left back or left midfielder. Twice the club won the Virginia State Cup championship (2013 and 2014) and in 2016, the team qualified for the ECNL National Playoffs in Oceanside, California.
"Sydney is a dynamic, left-footed player who can play up and down the left flank," Tech head women's soccer coach Chugger Adair said. "We are expecting to play her either as a left back or up top on the front left side. She's got a good left foot, a good engine and a real outgoing personality. We are looking forward to her being a part of our team – on the field, off the field and fitting in really well with our culture."
