BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's Emily Schiesl won her second race of the season, beating a small field at the Hokie Open cross country meet held on a rainy Friday evening at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course on Virginia Tech's campus.
Schiesl, a redshirt freshman from Burke, Virginia, won the women's 4K race in a time of 14 minutes, 39.4 seconds. Schiesl won by more than nine seconds, out-pacing Liberty's Jamie Anderson, who finished with a time of 14:48.6.
Schiesl also won the season-opening Virginia Tech Invitational held on the same course.
The Hokies' Cate Stone came in third at the Hokie Open with a time of 14:52.6, while Shannon Quinn was fifth with a time of 15:12.4.
Liberty won the meet on the women's side, finishing with 27 points, while the Hokies ended with 32.

On the men's side, Tech took the top four spots – though all four runners were running unattached and their finishes did not count in the team race. Diego Zarate won the 6K race with a time of 18:33.3, while Ryan Hughes (18:37.4), Matthias Cannon (18:52.7) and Simeon Mussie (19:05.8) finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Owen Buck, Brian Baker and David Whitfield also finished in the top 10, with Buck coming in sixth, Baker seventh and Whitfield 10th.
Duke won the team competition on the men's side, finishing with 15 points. The Hokies did not compete a full lineup and did not score.
Most of Tech's runners on both sides did not run in the meet. Tech's coaching staff rested them in preparation for the NCAA Southeast Regional meet, which will be held Friday, Nov. 9 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
