Virginia Tech runner Peter Seufer earned All-America honors by coming in 16th place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships held at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.
Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, ran the 10K course in a time of 29 minutes, 36.88 seconds. Morgan McDonald of Wisconsin won the event with a time of 29:08.22.
In addition, Seufer was the top ACC performer at the NCAA Championships. Brent Demarest of UVA was the closest ACC competitor behind Seufer, coming in 31st.
Seufer became just the seventh All-American in the history of the Virginia Tech men's cross country program and the program's first since 2015 when Tommy Curtin came in 22nd at the national meet.
Seufer also recorded the second-highest finish ever for a Tech men's runner at the NCAA Championships. Former Tech runner and former distance coach Steve Taylor finished ninth at the 1987 NCAA Championships when he led the Tech men to a program-best fourth-place finish.
Seufer's performance concludes the season for the Tech cross country programs. All distance runners now will spend the next couple of months preparing for the indoor track and field season, which starts Jan. 11 with the Virginia Tech Invitational.
