Hokies wrap up Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their fall slates on Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

HOKIES MEN
Lane Stone got the Hokies started with an eighth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle finishing with an NCAA B cut time of 15:21.53. He followed that event with the 200 back in which he placed seventh with a time of 1:45.41. Sam Tornqvist led the Hokies in the 200 back with a second-place finish and B cut of 1:41.93. 
 
Tech had two finish in the top-10 of the 100 free with Jake Lamparella placing ninth with a time of 44.09. Ian Ho finished just behind with a mark of 44.21.
 
Freshman Blake Manoff turned in a seventh-place finish in the 200 fly with a B cut time of 1:45.97. 
 
The Hokies wrapped up the swimming events with the 400 free relay, finishing with a fifth place time of 2:54.91 behind swims from Lamparella, Thomas Hallock, Ho, Stone.
 
On the boards, Ben Schiesl finished fifth with a score of 311.60. Freshman Noah Zawadzki was 11th with a tally of 280.35. 
 
HOKIES WOMEN
Freshman Loulou Vos opened the evening for the Hokies women with a ninth-place finish in the 1650 free, turning in a time of 16:41.99. 
 
The Hokies claimed a pair of top-10 finishes in the 200 backstroke as Reka Gyorgy claimed seventh with an NCAA B time of 1:57.05. Emily Meilus nabbed ninth, recording a time of 1:59.23.
 
Joelle Vereb continued her strong weekend, placing fourth in the 100 free with an NCAA B cut of 49.04. 
 
The Hokies wrapped up the swimming events, placing seventh in the 400 free relay as Vereb, Abigail Andrusin, Danielle Griggs and Gyorgy turned in a time of 3:19.61.
 
Ashlynn Peters wrapped up a solid diving weekend, placing second on the platform with a score of 251.60. Freshman Teagan Moravek claimed her second top-10 of the weekend as she placed ninth with a tally of 222.40.
 
Virginia Tech will return to competition on January 12 when the Hokies travel to Charlottesville to face Virginia.

HOKIES MEN
Schiesl recorded the top finish for the Hokies men as he claimed first on the 3-meter board with a score of 397.20. Freshman Noah Zawadzki added a fifth place in the event with a tally of 363.05.

On the swim side, the Hokies opened the finals with an eighth place finish in the 200 medley relay with Jake Lamparella, Norbert Szabo, Blake Manoff and Ian Ho turning in a time of 1:27.93.

The Hokies followed up with a fourth place finish from Sam Tornqvist in the 400 IM with an NCAA B time of 3:49.32.

Lane Stone posted a sixth place finish in the 200 free in a B standard time of 1:35.38. Lamparella added a sixth place 48.02 in the 100 back.

Tech wrapped up the evening with the 800 free relay with Stone, Manoff, Szabo and Henry Claesson placing sixth in a time of 6:35.29.

HOKIES WOMEN
Joelle Vereb and Ashlynn Peters finished at the top of their events for the Hokies during Friday's finals. Vereb swam an NCAA B time of 52.65 to take first in the 100 fly while Peters was the top score earner on the 1-meter board with a tally of 297.20.            

Vereb also added a third place finish in the 100 breaststroke, posting a B time of 1:00.98.

The Hokies opened the swim events with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay as Emily Meilus, Vereb, Kayla Purcell and Anna Landon turned in a time of 1:39.57.

Reka Gyorgy placed sixth in the 400 IM, swimming a B standard of 4:11.62. Tech wrapped up the swim events with the 800 free in which Gyorgy, Eleanor Matheson, Loulou Vos and Danielle Griggs placed seventh in 7:19.09.

Freshman Teagan Moravek also qualified for the finals in diving, placing sixth in the 1-meter with a score of 289.30.

- The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2018 Georgia Tech Invitational on Thursday. The Hokies men sit in fifth place after the first day while the women are in sixth.

HOKIES MEN
The men's team opened the evening finals with a fifth place finish in the 200 free relay as Ian Ho, Jake Lamparella, David Herbert and Thomas Hallock turned in a time of 1:18.98.

Tech followed up with Lane Stone posting a third place, 4:18.76 in the 500 freestyle to record an NCAA B standard in the event.

The Hokies got a pair of top-10 finishes in the 200 IM as Sam Tornqvist led the way, placing fourth with an NCAA B time of 1:45.92. Norbert Szabo added a seventh place 1:47.57 for the Hokies.

Ho added a sixth place finish in the 50 free with a B time of 19.74.

Virginia Tech wrapped up the evening placing seventh in the 400 medley relay, recording 3:13.92 from Ho, Lamparella, Simon Shi and Blake Manoff.

Ben Schiesl turned in the top finish for the Hokies men's team, placing first in the 1-meter, scoring 361.70. Noah Zawadzki added a seventh place finish with a score of 316.95.

HOKIES WOMEN
Joelle Vereb, Anna Landon, Abigail Andrusi and Kayla Purcell opened the evening for the Hokies with a seventh place finish in the 200 free relay, turning in a time of 1:31.89.

Reka Gyorgy saw her first event of the evening, finishing 10th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.39. She was back in the pool for the next event, placing ninth in the 200 IM (2:00.23), but she wasn't the top finishing Hokie in the event as Vereb placed sixth with an NCAA B cut of 1:59.15.

The Hokies wrapped up the swim events placing seventh in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:40.13 off swims from Gyorgy, Vereb, Purcell and Andrusin.

Ashlynn Peters was solid on the boards for the Hokies, finishing second in the 3-meter with a tally of 331.15.

The Hokies will be back in the pool Friday morning for the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 800 backstroke.
