Tech signs three to NLIs


BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head volleyball coach Jill Wilson on Wednesday announced that three prospective student-athletes – Logan Mosley, Cera Powell and Anabel Zier – have signed their National Letters of Intent on the first day of the signing period to join the Hokies for the 2019-20 academic year.

"We are excited to welcome a very dynamic and competitive class to our program," Wilson said. "Our staff has been so impressed with their level of consistency and execution and look forward to an immediate impact. All three players bring a winning mentality and a drive to help our program take the next step."

High School: Five-year varsity letterwinner … Coached by Lesley White and her mom, Victoria, at Cary Christian HS … Played club for Triangle Volleyball Club … 2017 NCISAA Player of the Year … 2017 NCISAA first-team all-state … Three-time all-conference … Honorable mention all-conference her eighth-grade season in 2014 … Led the Knights to a third-place finish in the 2017 state tournament … Two-time team captain … Led USA Volleyball 16U to a fourth-place finish at nationals in 2016 … Guided USA Volleyball 16U to a third-place finish at nationals in 2017 … Was a key cog in USA Volleyball 18U's championship run at nationals in 2018.

Personal: Logan Leigh Mosley … Born Aug. 28, 2001 … Daughter of David and Victoria Mosley … Sister of Christian … Her mother, Victoria, played college volleyball at Barton College … Planning on majoring in either elementary education or sports medicine.

"Logan will bring an elite level of court vision to our program with her high-level indoor and beach training," Wilson said. "She is a tenacious defender and competitor and knows how to win. She has strong family connections to Virginia Tech and has a deep pride to wear this uniform."

Personal: Cera Latrice Powell … Born Oct. 22, 2000 … Daughter of Dedric and Cherice Powell … Sister of Deuce and Drake … Her great uncle, Walter Davis, played men's basketball at North Carolina and was selected to the USA men's basketball team at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and went on to become a 15-year NBA player and six-time NBA All-Star, having his number retied (#6) with the Phoenix Suns organization after being the Suns' all-time leading scorer … Undecided on intended major … Hopes to become a physician assistant.

"Cera is a natural volleyball player that moves easily on the court," Wilson said. "She combines that smoothness with a powerful arm and physicality. Cera has always established great leadership on the court with the way she interacts with her teammates."

Personal: Anabel Grace Zier … Born Aug. 16, 2001 … Daughter of David and Debbie Zier … Sister of Tyler and Maggie … Her aunt, Cindy Zier Szewczyk, played on Tech's women's soccer team (1993-95), earning defensive MVP honors … Undecided on intended major … Hopes to pursue a career in science.

"We are honored to add a Blacksburg native to our family," Wilson said. "Anabel has a consistent level of play in all aspects of the game. She has an inner toughness and drive that will make a daily impact to our culture."

Tech will hit the road this weekend, taking on Boston College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET and Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m.
