Seufer receives bid to NCAA Cross Country Championships

Virginia Tech runner Peter Seufer received a bid to participate in the 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, as announced Saturday evening by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.

Seufer, a redshirt junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, finished second at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet held Friday at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He narrowly missed winning the meet, finishing less than a second behind winner James Sugira of Eastern Kentucky.

Seufer, the ACC champion, has finished either first or second in each of the past four meets in which he has run.

The committee announced the team and individual qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. Eighteen teams automatically qualified by finishing first or second at the nine regional meets and then 13 teams received at-large bids.

Thirty-eight individuals – including Seufer – were selected to participate at the NCAA Championships through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.

The NCAA Championships will be held next Saturday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The women's race begins at 11:45 a.m. ET, while the men's race starts at 12:45 p.m.
