Tech falls to No. 3 North Carolina 2-1 Saturday night

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 19 Virginia Tech men's soccer team fell to No. 3 North Carolina, as the Tar Heels' Nils Brueming scored with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Carolina was first on the board as Bruening received a pass inside the box in the 21st minute that found him with enough room to push it into the bottom left of the net. The Hokies would go on to respond in the 45th minute, as Vincent Jackson II took a cross from James Kasak and headed it into the back right of the net, tying the game at one apiece heading into the half.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams with scoring opportunities. Tech was aggressive both offensively and defensively as it looked as if the Hokies were going to head into their third consecutive overtime game, but the Tar Heels' had other plans as Bruening was able to finish in the box in the 84th minute. Tech fought strongly in the final six minutes to find an equalizer, but were unable to do so.
