The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a three-round total of 10-under 854 on Sunday and finished seventh at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament was played at the par 72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the campus of NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend.
Tech shot a 5-over 293 in Saturday's morning round and followed that with a 10-under 278 in the afternoon's second round. On Sunday, Tech posted a 5-under 283.
Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, led the Hokies. He is tied for 15th at 4-under 212, nine strokes behind medalist Benjamin Shipp of NC State. Brockwell shot a career-best 4-under 68 in the opening round.
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia and Slade Pickering, a sophomore from North West, South Africa, tied for 25th at 215. Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia and Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 35th at 217. Cameron Moore, a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, played the event as an individual and tied for 53rd at 220. All five members of the starting five for the Hokies had at least one sub-70 round in the 54-hole event.
Host NC State won the team title with a 31-under 830, seven strokes ahead of Jacksonville and 13 strokes ahead of UNC Greensboro. Campbell was fourth at 847, East Carolina was fifth at 850 and Maryland was sixth at 853, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Southern Miss was eighth at 855, UNC Wilmington was ninth at 857 and High Point was 10th at 861. Wofford finished 11th at 870, Georgia State was 12th at 882, George Mason was 13th at 884, Loyola of Maryland was 14th at 893 and Lipscomb was 15th at 899.
The Hokies return to action this weekend, as they travel to Tennessee to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament, hosted by East Tennessee State, will be played at the Blacktorn Club at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
