Hokie ClubNORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team wrapped up competition on Sunday at the Commonwealth Invitational in Norfolk, Virginia.
Freshman Rita Pinto rallied to win in three sets after giving up the first 6-2 to Virginia's Maya Das. Pinto came back to take the next two with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Shene Disbergen also picked up a win for the Hokies as she knocked off UVA's Lizze Baker 6-0, 6-3.
Virginia Tech will return to the court Oct. 12-16 at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Lynchburg, Virginia.

DAY TWO
NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team racked up a few more wins on Saturday during the second day of the Commonwealth Invitational in Norfolk, Virginia.
Freshman Samantha Gillas moved to 9-1 on the fall as she defeated William & Mary's Clara Tanielian with straight set scores of 6-3, 6-2. Junior Shene Disbergen also won in straight sets against the Tribe's Mila Saric, taking the first in a tiebreak 7-6(7) and the second 7-5.
Nina Sorkin rallied to win against W&M's Natalia Perry after dropping the first set 6-4. The two played an exciting second and were tied at six to force a tiebreak in which Sorkin rolled to win it 7-6(1). In the final set, Sorkin continued to roll to secure the win 6-1.
Tech's Emily Pence also had a win in three. She won the first set 6-4 over Vitoria Okuyama of the Tribe, but gave up the second 6-2. In the final set, Pence took it 6-4.
In doubles play, Gillas teamed up with fellow freshman Rita Pinto to knock off Virginia's duo of Maya Das and Lizzie Baker, 8-4.
The Hokies will wrap up the Commonwealth Invitational on Sunday.

NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia Tech women's tennis team opened the Commonwealth Invitational with wins in singles and doubles on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
Shene Disbergen rolled past William & Mary's Charlotte Madison with a straight set win of 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Rita Pinto also won in straight sets, defeating host team Old Dominion's Lesya Andrieieva 7-5, 7-6.
Samantha Gillas battled past ODU's Nataliia Vlasova. After giving up the first set 6-4, Gillas responded to take the next two 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, sophomores Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin were back on the court together for the first time this season. They held on for the tiebreak win over William & Mary's Lauren Goodman and Clara Tanielian, 7-6(5).
Disbergen paired up with Emily Pence for the 9-8(7) win over the Tribe's Mila Saric and Vitoria Okuyama.
The Hokies will be back on the court Saturday for the second day of competition.
